If you get a chance, stop by and say hello to Ms. Nancy Hightower. Most likely, you will be engaged in a conversation with her about her wonderful family and what a great life she leads. If she is not around, you may find her at church, playing bingo, or attending music programs.

Ms. Hightower has a rich family heritage. She was born in Tazewell, Tennessee, on her family’s farm on April 16, 1923 to Topsey Etter and Amos Williams. Topsey Williams, Nancy’s mother, worked around the farm, and the thing Nancy remembers most is her apple butter recipe. The family also owned a dairy farm where they hand-milked each cow and sold milk to other residents of Tazewell. Amos, Nancy’s father, worked alongside Topsey taking care of the farm and later working in the mines. Nancy grew up hunting and fishing around the farm with her three brothers Johnny, Clarence, Lebert and four sisters Betty King, Elizabeth Carroll, Flora Holt, and Maxie Taylor. In 1939 when Nancy was 16, the family purchased their first car.

Nancy Williams met her husband-to-be when she was working at the Oak Ridge Power Plant. At age 23, she married Roy Hightower, and together they had three wonderful children. Nancy moved to Chicago when Roy took a job working at General American repairing train cars. Additionally, Nancy has resided in Indiana, Kentucky, Morristown, TN, as well as her hometown of Tazewell. Working as a Certified Nursing Assistant for over 30 years, Ms. Hightower was in the ideal profession to foster her love of taking care of others.

A favorite pastime of Ms. Hightower’s was each year was planting colorful flower gardens. Proving that life is vibrant and fresh, Nancy received her GED at the age of 85. She still lives her life to the fullest at Jefferson Park Dandridge, spending her days with family and friends.

At Jefferson Park, we strive to meet our residents where they are in their time of need.  Residents aren’t just another person or number, they are our family and friends whom we highly respect.
