Catherine Ellen Swinford Stitt represents August’s Resident of the Month at Jefferson Park. Born November 7, 1946, Catherine was raised in Clinton, Tennessee. Ms. Stitt says that her earliest memory is meeting her father at the age 3, after he married her mom and then decided to adopt her. Catherine has had a great life, which included meeting Douglas Stitt while in school. Douglas joined the Navy when Catherine went to college, and the two remained in touch by frequently writing letters to each other. Four years after they started as Pen Pals, they were married in the Philippines. One of Catherine’s fondest memory is having dinner with Elvis Presley in the Philippines. She recalls that he was very nice and polite, and he even bought their dinner. Catherine raised a family of three sons: Douglas, David, and Dwight. While working as a Deputy Sheriff in Anderson County, TN, Catherine she saw a real-life shootout, and said it is not anything like what happens on TV, there is no backup called-in to assist! Life has taught Ms. Stitt to treat others how you want to be treated, which is a wonderful lesson for us all. Catherine loves listening to classical music, reading any genre of book, visiting family, and playing board games with her seven grandchildren, who visit her often.
